The Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago has received 100 students of St. Mary’s Catholic Private Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, who regained their freedom on Sunday after spending nearly two weeks in captivity.
The children, conveyed in several buses under tight security, arrived at the government house in Minna on Monday evening.
They were welcomed by the governor, top government officials, and family members.
The pupils were among the 315 people seized when gunmen invaded the remote community on November 21.
The attackers, who arrived on motorbikes around 2 a.m., reportedly operated for nearly three hours before leaving with 303 students and 12 teachers.
About 50 pupils escaped within the first 24 hours, reducing those held captive to 265.
