The Federal Government and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) have agreed to establish a joint technical team to identify priority areas and develop a collaborative framework aimed at ensuring accountability, transparency, and timely delivery of major road and bridge projects across Nigeria.
The decision was reached at a meeting between the Minister of Works, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, and a delegation from the IsDB Regional Hub (RH) in Nigeria, led by its Team Leader, Operations, Mr Ibrahim Chalive, during a courtesy visit to the Minister’s office in Abuja.
The joint technical team, according to both parties, will focus on accelerating the implementation of key components of the Four Renewed Hope Legacy Road Projects under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The move was part of the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with international development institutions to fast-track infrastructure delivery nationwide.
Speaking at the meeting, Umahi reaffirmed that the Tinubu administration places a high premium on road infrastructure as a catalyst for economic transformation, job creation, and improved mobility of goods and people.
He assured that the Ministry of Works remains committed to transparent, innovative, and cost-effective project execution in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The minister expressed appreciation to members of the National Assembly for their continued support in facilitating funding for critical road projects, and commended the Islamic Development Bank for its sustained partnership in Nigeria’s infrastructure sector.
He described the new phase of collaboration as a milestone that would consolidate previous achievements and expand the scope of cooperation between both institutions.
In his remarks, Mr Chalive lauded the Ministry’s ongoing reforms in engineering design, quality assurance, and project management.
He reaffirmed the Bank’s readiness to provide both financial and technical support to strengthen Nigeria’s infrastructure base and help achieve sustainable national development.
