Nigeria Secures INTERPOL Africa Committee Seat

Nigeria has secured a seat on the INTERPOL Africa Committee following the election of Commissioner of Police Olubode Ojajuni during the 27th African Regional Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

The election outcome gave Nigeria the fifth seat on the committee, with a two-year tenure.

The INTERPOL Africa Committee is the advisory organ of the African Regional Conference.

Its functions include guiding the conference sessions, identifying priority crime areas across the continent, and shaping strategies for tackling transnational threats.

The committee also facilitates cross-border police cooperation, develops regional projects, and promotes best practices in law enforcement.

Speaking on the development, the Force spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, highlighted the Committee’s role in advancing regional and continental security.

Adejobi said, “This achievement reflects Nigeria’s growing influence and leadership in global law enforcement matters, particularly in the fight against transnational crime, terrorism, and other emerging threats.

“With CP Olubode’s election, Nigeria will continue to play a critical role in shaping regional and global policing strategies under the INTERPOL framework.”

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, congratulated Ojajuni and reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to deepen international cooperation in law enforcement.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to professionalism, integrity, and sustained engagement with global partners to promote peace and security.
