The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed more than 55,000 operatives across the country to safeguard critical national assets and protect lives and property during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, said the deployment was aimed at stopping criminal elements who often exploit festive periods to perpetrate crimes.
According to him, the Corps will intensify efforts to tackle threats such as banditry, kidnapping, farmer–herder clashes, terrorism, and insurgency, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to achieving lasting security.
“Security threats will be effectively tackled if citizens imbibe the habit of giving credible and sustained intelligence that will lead to the arrest of those who constitute threats to national security,” Audi said.
He directed all Zonal Commanders to closely monitor formations under their jurisdictions, while State Commandants are to coordinate Area Commands, Divisional Offices, and other operational units to ensure seamless implementation of the security measures.
The deployment, he explained, involves both covert and overt operations, with full mobilization of personnel to guarantee maximum human security and protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.
“It is imperative for members of the public to trust and collaborate with us by giving credible and timely information to enable us to act swiftly and prevent crimes rather than being reactive,” the NSCDC helmsman stated.
Audi reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to creating a safe and secure environment, adding that this can only be achieved with sustained public support.
He also assured of the NSCDC’s readiness to work in synergy with sister security agencies to ensure peace and security for national development to thrive.
