…Kills Two Suspects In Gun Battle
Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have foiled a kidnap attempt on a Nigerian Customs Service officer, his wife, and others during a gun battle with the suspected gang in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The operation, at the Bukan-Ari area along Kurikyo Road in Lafia metropolis, was carried out by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS).
The NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, confirmed the incident on Thursday in Abuja.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, the Commander of the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, Commandant AS Dandaura (JP), said the operation lasted over five hours and ended with the neutralisation and arrest of several members of the criminal gang.
“In a 5-hour intelligence-based coordinated operation, my men, in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Commandant, foiled a kidnap attempt on two residents of the Bukan-Ari area along Kurikyo Road in Lafia.
“The Commandant General has zero tolerance for all acts of economic sabotage, vandalism, and threats against lives and property. We are committed to fighting head-on any group or syndicate terrorizing innocent citizens,” Dandaura revealed.
He explained that the success of the operation was made possible through advanced technology and credible intelligence gathering that pinpointed the activities of the kidnap gang, which had been responsible for several abductions in the area.
Dandaura said,” The kidnappers met their Waterloo while attempting to abduct a Customs officer, his wife, and another resident. Our operatives engaged them in an intense exchange of gunfire and subdued them through superior firepower. Two kidnappers were arrested, two were neutralized, while one escaped with severe gunshot injuries and fled with an AK-47 rifle.”
Items recovered at the scene of the crime included:
One (1) AK-47 assault rifle, One (1) magazine, Forty (40) rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, Five (5) mobile phones, Two (2) knives, ₦7,500 cash, and Substances suspected to be charms.
The arrested suspects were identified as Hassan Ibrahim (23), a native of Azare Local Government Area of Bauchi State, and Ibrahim Hudu (30), a Fulani man.
Two members of the gang, identified as Mata (the driver) and Yahaya Abubakar, were killed in the exchange of fire.
Dandaura noted that the captured suspects were cooperating with investigators and had confessed to their involvement in previous abductions in the Lafia area.
“The suspects have confessed to participating in several kidnappings within the state. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and other members of the syndicate who are still at large,” he said.
He reiterated the Corps’ commitment to maintaining security and public safety across Nasarawa State and beyond, and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
“The NSCDC will not relent in ensuring the safety of lives and property across the country. We urge members of the public to report any strange movement or suspicious persons to the nearest security office. Together, we can defeat these criminals,” Dandaura affirmed.
The NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage, and swift response.
