NSCDC, Military Dismantle Illegal Refinery In Anambra, Arrest Suspect

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra has uncovered an illegal artisanal refinery and petrol in the state.

The operation, which involved collaboration with the Nigerian Navy and Army, took place at Y-Junction, Nkwelle Ezunaka, located in Oyi Local Government Area.

During the raid on Saturday, the operatives arrested one suspect while others fled the scene.

Security personnel recovered the following items: 49 kegs of 25 litres each, suspected to contain adulterated Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and four drums of 200 litres each.

Other exhibits included suspected adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and one pumping machine, all of which were handed over to the NSCDC for prosecution.

The Commandant, NSCDC Anambra Command, Maku Olatunde, warned operators and perpetrators of illegal oil refineries to stay away from Anambra.

He said, “Our sights are set on individuals and groups using unwholesome covers for oil-related wrongdoings, and those brazenly committing crimes and criminalities in Oil, Gas and Energy sectors of the economy.

“If they fail to change, the command is resolute and will take more decisive actions against you in Anambra State.”

The NSCDC State helmsman further reiterated the command’s commitment to free its areas of operations from all forms of illegal dealings on petroleum products and other related activities.

He also commended the Nigerian Navy and Army that supported the operations, warning economic saboteurs in the state that the Corps’ mechanisms are in place to smoke them out.
