Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State have foiled an attempted kidnapping and cattle rustling operation in Bakin Komau, Dangora area of Kiru Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the incident occurred on Thursday when armed assailants attacked a shepherd, injured him and abducted two people while attempting to steal livestock.
According to the NSCDC, personnel deployed around the nearby Dansoshiya Forest responded swiftly after receiving a distress call and engaged the suspects in a gun battle.
The attackers reportedly fled into the forest with injuries after being overwhelmed by the operatives, abandoning the kidnapped victims and leaving behind the livestock.
The rescued victims, identified as Abubakar Saleh, 36, and Muhammad Inuwa Dille, 30, have since been reunited with their families, while the injured shepherd, 70-year-old Alhaji Saleh, received medical attention.
The NSCDC said its personnel were stationed in the area to provide security for an ongoing dam construction project and protect grazing reserves and farming communities from criminal activities.
State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property and critical national assets, while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
