NYCN Gets Interim Management Committee After Withdrawn CAC Registration

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has been placed under the stewardship of a 9-man interim management committee by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.

The development follows the withdrawal of NYCN’s registration certificate by CAC, effective October 6, 2025, due to an 18-year leadership crisis and violations of the NYCN Constitution and the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020.

The IMC, which was inaugurated at the NYCN headquarters in Abuja, comprises representatives from various zones and stakeholders.

The members include Barr. Buhari Shehu (Chairman, representing CAC), Sagir Umar Yana (Bauchi, representing CAC), Ms. Kehinde Charity Awujoola (representing the Federal Ministry of Youth Development), Hon. Josephine Equali Eni (Cross River State, representing the South-South zone) and Adeleke Adebajo (Ogun State, representing the South-West zone).

Also, Kaka Lawal Bandi (Borno State, representing the North-East zone), Mohammed Abdullahi Sule (Kano State, representing the North-West zone), Ms. Blessing Onne Okwe (Benue State, representing the North-Central zone), and Uzoh Ifeanyi C (Enugu State, representing the South-East zone and stakeholders).

According to the CAC, the decision to withdraw NYCN’s registration certificate was taken pursuant to the powers conferred on the Commission under Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of CAMA 2020, following a comprehensive investigation into the affairs of the Council.

The investigation revealed serial violations of the NYCN Constitution and CAMA 2020, particularly Sections 833 and 834.

The Ministry acknowledged the legal authority of CAC under CAMA 2020 and urged stakeholders, youth organisations, and partners to cooperate with the IMC in restructuring NYCN to restore unity and legitimacy.

The Ministry also emphasised its commitment to a stable, credible, and inclusive youth governance framework aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on accountability and transparency.

The IMC is expected to oversee and manage the affairs of NYCN for a period of one year, effective October 6, 2025.
