Supporters of Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have convened an emergency world press conference in Abuja following the court-ordered deregistration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
The development was announced by Tanko Yunusa, the Coordinator of the Obidient Movement.
The group is the umbrella body for Obi’s supporters.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the emergency briefing is a joint initiative with the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which is similarly the supporter group of Kwankwaso.
Under the banner “Save Our Democracy,” the allied groups invited members of the press and the general public to gather at the Obidient Movement Headquarters in Life Camp, Abuja, at 12:00 noon on Monday, June 29, 2026 (today).
The gathering just days following the judgement by the Federal High Court in Lokoja deregistering the NDC. On Friday, Hon. Justice Isa H. Dashen of the Lokoja Judicial Division set aside a December 10, 2025 judgment that had previously compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the NDC.
According to the court’s latest ruling, the original registration order had to be nullified because it directly infringed upon the legal rights of the Peace Movement Party. That party had stepped forward to claim exclusive ownership of the logo used by the NDC, arguing that it was unlawfully omitted as a party to the original lawsuit.
Recall that Obi and Kwankwaso were only recently ratified as the NDC’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
