Teachers across Ogun State have come out to state why they are endorsing Senator Solomon Adeola aka Yayi as their preferred candidate in the race for governor in the upcoming February 2027 general election.
In a strongly worded statement jointly signed by Comrade Sunday Odunaro, State General Coordinator and Mr. Taiwo Olusola Increase, State Secretary General of Yayi Teachers of over 15,000 members spread across all Local Government Areas of Ogun State, in reaction to a statement from a faction of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State to the effect that teachers in Ogun State are being forced to endorse Senator Adeola, stated that they are a group of educators with guaranteed constitutional right of franchise to vote in any election and that following an enlightened consideration of the state of education in Ogun State, teachers are irrevocably committed to endorsing Senator Yayi for his aspiration to govern Ogun State.
“Our group of teachers from public and private sector was formed 5 years ago and we have since inaugurated functional chapters in all the 20 Local Government of Ogun State. We decided to adopt Senator Adeola from our inception based on his now outstanding and indeed unparallel performance for the education sector in Ogun State as a legislator in the last three and half years in Ogun State. We are not apologetic about our endorsement as our dear state has not witnessed the magnitude of qualitative and quantitative contribution to the educational sector by any legislator or individual” the statement reads.
Yayi Teachers stated that they are proud that Senator Adeola has so far facilitated the construction of 87 12-Classroom blocks with 56 Staff Rooms and 4 ultra-modern libraries across Ogun State to enhance the learning environment of pupils and students at primary and secondary school levels stressing that this has greatly assisted in enhancing the learning environment by depopulating crowded classrooms to manageable numbers for teachers. These facilities are further complimented by provision of furniture and textbooks in their thousands in relevant subjects.
Part of Senator Adeola’s performance for the educational sector that further endeared him to teachers in Ogun State includes construction of 13 fully functional ICT Centres and 8 Skills Acquisition Centres across Ogun State. The Senator also trained thousands of Students as well as teachers in ICT with donation of laptop computers for students and teachers at the end of training.
The statement also noted the Senator’s facilitation of 2,636 scholarships of N200,00 each and 9894 bursaries of N100,000 each for undergraduate students of Ogun State origin in tertiary institutions across Nigeria as well as donation of mini-buses for tertiary institution’s campuses adding that his love for advanced education was further demonstrated by his sponsorship of a bill that has now upgraded Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro to Federal University of Technology, Ilaro.
“We are also enamored to endorse Senator Adeola for his coming to the aid of indigent West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE) students as well as Joint Matriculation Examination Board candidates unable to afford the fees for these critical examinations. In 2026, he personally paid for 2,137 WASSCE students while paying the JAMB fees for over 7000 JAMB candidates of Ogun origin over the years” the statement further reads.
The teacher therefore, stated that it is absolute falsehood that they are being coerced to endorsed the Senator popularly acknowledge as lover of educational development stressing that their endorsement is voluntary and based on their constitutional rights as citizens and critical stakeholders in the educational sector.
