The Situation Room also reported that there is a large turnout of voters in many polling units, while the BVAS machines are also functioning properly.
Voting in the Osun State governorship election is proceeding smoothly in several polling units across the state, according to reports from the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) Situation Room.
The reports came from Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Aiyedire, and Egbedore Local Government Areas.
CJID deployed observers across all 30 LGAs in Osun State.
According to the Situation Room, as of 9:30 a.m., voting was proceeding smoothly at Polling Unit 001, St Philips Primary School, Registration Area 01, Boluwaduro. It reported a high voter turnout at the polling stations.
Meanwhile, voting proceeded smoothly at Polling Unit 001, Registration Area 04, Omofe/Idasa, Ilesa West.
Also at 9:30 a.m., BVAS was functioning properly at Polling Unit 005, Oloya Open Space, Oluponna 2 Registration Area, Aiyedire.
By 9:33 a.m., voters were queuing at Polling Unit 002 at Town Hall, Awo, in Awo/Abudo Ward, Egbedore. Security personnel were also present at the polling station.
The reports are important considering the security concerns that came before the election.
According to reports, Osun experienced a series of killings, shootings, and clashes during the lead-up to the election, raising concerns about the safety of voters, election officials, and other participants.
The police had also prohibited Amotekun, vigilante groups, hunters, and other local security outfits from taking part in election security operations.
The police stated that only authorised security agencies would participate in the joint security operation across the 30 local government areas.
The governorship election is taking place across the states today, with voters selecting the governor who will lead Osun for the next four years.
PREMIUM TIMES reported that 15 parties are on the ballot for the off-cycle election, with the incumbent, Ademola Adeleke, whose first term ends in November, seeking a fresh mandate on the Accord Party ticket.
