The police said the suspects were allegedly involved in using human body parts to prepare ritual concoctions purportedly meant to bring wealth to users.
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects for alleged possession and use of suspected fresh human body parts.
In a video posted by Oyo Affairs, the command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspects were arrested on 1 August at different locations in Iseyin and Shaki areas of Oyo State.
Mr Ayandele alleged that the suspects were involved in using human body parts to prepare ritual concoctions purportedly meant to bring wealth to users.
“The ten suspects here were arrested on the first of August 2026, for allegedly being in unlawful possession of fresh parts suspected to be human parts,” Mr Ayanlade said.
The video clip also captured the interview of the suspects.
One of them, Nurudeen Ganiyu, who described himself as a farmer, said he had used a human skull to prepare a ritual concoction for about two years after receiving it from a man identified as Ila.
Mr Ganiyu said he was told the concoction would make him wealthy, but claimed that his financial situation instead deteriorated.
“I was arrested because I used a human skull to make a ritual concoction. They told me it would work for the wealthy, but since the two years I used it, it didn’t do anything. My life just kept getting worse and running down,” he said.
He said he eventually stopped using the concoction after observing what happened to the person who allegedly supplied him with the human skull. “The person that gave me the human head I used later became mentally disordered. So I stopped it since I also used it for two years and there was no difference,” he said.
Mr Ganiyu also narrated how police operatives allegedly lured him to a meeting before arresting him.
He said an unknown caller contacted him, claiming to have obtained his number from someone interested in giving him business.
“When we met they introduced themselves as officers and arrested me,” he said.
Another suspect, Ismail Abdullahi, said he had used human bone to prepare a snail concoction.
Mr Abdullahi, who said he is an Islamic teacher, claimed that someone gave him the human bone about four years ago and taught him how to use it.
“I used human bone to make snail concoction. It’s been four years since someone gave me the human bone. He taught me how to use it,” he said.
He said he ground the bone, bought three snails and prepared the ritual concoction, which he consumed after being told it was meant to make him wealthy.
However, he claimed that he had not become wealthy after four years of using it.
Another suspect, Wasiu Tijani, allegedly linked Mr Ganiyu to other people involved in using human parts.
He said he obtained human parts from a man identified as Suleiman in Shaki after paying between N20,000 and N30,000.
Abiola Nasiru, 46, also said he obtained human parts from another suspect, identified as Taofeek, who was among those arrested.
Mr Nasiru said that they used the parts for rituals intended to make people wealthy. “No one we used it for has become wealthy,” he said.
The police did not disclose the forensic status of the materials recovered from the suspects or whether investigators had established that they were human remains.
Mr Ayanlade told PREMIUM TIMES that investigations are still ongoing said details on the arrest of the aspects will be share publicly later in the day.
