The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has inaugurated a seven-member National Reconciliation Committee to address grievances arising from its recently concluded party primaries and to strengthen unity within the party ahead of upcoming elections.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, and National Secretary, Mr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu.
According to the statement, the committee is mandated to engage with aspirants across the country and party stakeholders to address outstanding issues stemming from the primaries. The party said the initiative is part of efforts to ensure cohesion and present a united front going into the next round of elections.
Political economist and public affairs commentator, Professor Pat Utomi, will serve as Chairman of the committee. Veteran politician and former lawmaker, Engineer Buba Galadima, was named Co-Chairman.
The statement further listed Mohammed Sanni Takori as Vice Chairman and Babatunde Alli as Secretary. Other members of the committee are Mrs. Dudu Mamman Manuga, Hon. Salvador Adegoke Moshood, and Alhaji Haruna Pai.
In addition to the national panel, the NDC said it has constituted three zonal sub-committees to coordinate reconciliation activities at the grassroots level. The zonal committees will cover the North, South-South, and South-East geopolitical zones.
The party explained that the zonal structure is intended to ensure that concerns from all regions are addressed promptly and that party members at the state and local levels are carried along in the reconciliation process.
“The National Reconciliation Committee will be inaugurated at the party’s national secretariat at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 6,” the statement said.
The NDC added that a comprehensive list of members of the national committee and the three zonal sub-committees will be made public during the inauguration ceremony.
Party leaders said the reconciliation effort reflects the NDC’s commitment to internal democracy, dispute resolution, and party discipline. They urged all members who participated in the primaries to cooperate with the committee to ensure lasting peace within the party.
