The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has dismissed speculation that his involvement in a proposed political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections is driven by personal ambition or a vice-presidential bid.
Obi, who addressed the issue during an event in Kubwa, Abuja, where he made donations to a school and hospital project organized by the Anglican Church, reiterated that his focus is on addressing national challenges — not political positioning.
His comments were in response to recent reports claiming that he had reached an agreement with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to serve as his running mate in 2027, with Atiku allegedly pledging to serve only one term and formalize the deal in writing.
While Obi did not directly confirm or deny the reports, he firmly restated his commitment to the larger mission of the coalition.
“You can make of the report what you want,” Obi said. “But I’m in a coalition against bad governance, hunger, and poverty.”
