PMAN NEC Suspends Sidney Sparrow, Baba Ojonugwa, 7 others, Appoints Uche James As Acting Treasurer

The Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has adopted the Final Report of the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) submitted to the National Executive Council (NEC) on April 27, 2026.

A statement signed by Elizabeth Khara Gabriel, Acting General Secretary, PMAN, indicated that the report was adopted at the NEC meeting held on May 17, 2026.

“PMAN wishes to inform its members, state chapters, stakeholders in the Nigerian music industry, government institutions, partners, and the general public that the National Executive Council (NEC) has formally adopted the Final Report of the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) submitted to NEC on April 27, 2026,” the statement reads.

According to the Acting General Secretary, the disciplinary process came from the NEC resolution referring certain members of the association to the National Disciplinary Committee for investigation and recommendation over matters connected with the alleged WhatsApp group call of December 25, 2025, and related acts considered by NEC to be inconsistent with the constitutional discipline, order and institutional integrity of PMAN.

The referral was made pursuant to the motion titled Referral to National Disciplinary Committee moved by Comrade Orok Duke, which specifically called on the National Disciplinary Committee to invite the concerned persons, receive responses, consider relevant evidence, and report back to NEC with findings and recommendations.

“Following the said referral, the National Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Comrade Uche James, with Kevin A. Williams as Secretary, issued query letters, invitation letters, and reminder notices to the affected persons. Two interrogative sessions were subsequently held via Zoom on the 22nd and 23rd of April, 2026.

“The Committee reported that the affected persons were duly notified and afforded opportunity to appear, respond and defend themselves, but failed, neglected or refused to participate in the proceedings despite the additional opportunity granted in the interest of fair hearing,” Gabriel stated.

However, upon consideration of the report, the NEC could not but adopt the findings and recommendations of the National Disciplinary Committee, resolving that the affected chapter executives and officers be subjected to the appropriate constitutional disciplinary measures, including suspension for a period not exceeding 12 months, subject to the provisions of the PMAN constitution.

Those suspended are Baba Ojonugwa (JFO), Abdulsalami Abdulhakeem (Triple A), Olumide Aduloju, Joshua Offiong, Njiribeako Alexander (Golda C.), Oliver Omaniode (Don Oliver), Williams Eje (Ejekajo), Eric Kussiy (Ricky), and Sydney Jack Asowari (Sydney Sparrow).

To ensure stability, restore constitutional order and protect the interests of PMAN members across the country, it was resolved that affected chapters shall, where necessary, be placed under interim administrative arrangements, while elections in affected chapters shall be conducted within the constitutionally guided period as may be directed by NEC.

The Acting General Secretary further disclosed that in respect of the office of the National Treasurer, NEC adopted the recommendation that Baba Ojonugwa, popularly known as JFO, be suspended from the office of National Treasurer for a period of twelve months, in accordance with the relevant disciplinary provisions of the PMAN constitution, subject to his right of appeal to the National Delegates Conference.

“Consequent upon the suspension, NEC, by unanimous decision, appointed Comrade Uche James as the Acting National Treasurer of PMAN, pending the expiration or lawful review of the suspension period, or until a National Delegates Conference is convened in accordance with the constitution.”

While congratulating Comrade Uche James on his appointment, PMAN revealed that he is a seasoned accountant and committed unionist “whose experience, discipline and institutional knowledge are expected to strengthen financial administration, accountability and transparency within the union during this critical period.”

Meanwhile, the National Executive Council of PMAN has commended the National Disciplinary Committee for the maturity, diligence and procedural fairness with which it discharged its assignment.

It also reassured of PMANs commitment to constitutional governance, internal discipline, due process, institutional stability, and protection of the union from acts capable of dragging it back into disorder.

In his remarks, the PMAN President, Pretty Okafor said the association would continue to welcome dissent, criticism, and internal dialogue within the boundaries of its constitution.

“However, no member, officer, chapter executive, or group of persons shall be permitted to undermine the unions lawful organs, misrepresent its authority, or exploit informal platforms to destabilize the collective interest of Nigerian musicians.

“Members, state chapters, partners and stakeholders are, therefore, advised to take notice of the decisions of NEC and continue to relate with the lawful organs of PMAN accordingly.

“PMAN remains focused on rebuilding the Union, protecting musicians, expanding opportunities for members, strengthening institutional structures, and positioning Nigerian music for greater national and international impact,” he stressed.
