Police Arrest 14 Suspected Traffic Robbers In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 14 suspected traffic robbers along the Lekki–Epe Expressway, following repeated complaints by motorists over theft of vehicle parts while stuck in traffic.

The arrests were carried out within the last two weeks by operatives of the Tactical Squad, Elemoro, at different locations along the busy corridor.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the operation reflects the police’s resolve to improve security and protect road users in the area.

“Sequel to this post, Fourteen (14) suspected traffic robbers have been arrested by the Tactical Squad, Elemoro, within the last two weeks at different locations along the Lekki–Epe Expressway. This is a clear demonstration of the Command’s commitment to improving security and protecting road users along the corridor,” Adebisi said on X on Tuesday.

She urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The arrests followed a social media post by an X user, Fisayo Fosudo (@Fosudo), who complained about repeated theft of parts from his vehicle while in traffic.

Fosudo said the incident marked the fourth time his car had been targeted.

“Today makes it the fourth time that these boys on the street will steal my car’s parts in Lagos traffic,” he wrote, adding that the latest incident involved the forceful removal of his windshield cover while he was locked in traffic.

Another X user, Dr. Toks (@fimiletoks), also raised concerns over the activities of traffic robbers along the Lekki–Epe axis, warning that some vehicle models are frequently targeted.

According to him, the perpetrators often disguise as beggars or hawkers to steal vehicle parts, especially side mirrors, which he said are in high demand and costly to replace.

“If you drive the RX 350 2017 – 2022 model, you are a target at night on Lekki – Epe. You will replace side mirrors and that black cover behind the mirrors every other month. One mirror costs over a 100k, and it’s in high demand. They disguise as beggars or hawkers,” he said.
