The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, identified as Samson Onilewaji, for allegedly being in possession of a suspected human body part, firearms and other suspected stolen items during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The suspect was arrested after operatives intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus conveying six occupants. During a search of the vehicle and its passengers, police recovered a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one Point of Sale (POS) terminal machine and five ATM cards from the suspect.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the statement, the suspect confessed to recently robbing three individuals of their personal belongings, including the recovered POS terminal machine and ATM cards.
The police said efforts are underway to identify and contact the victims for the return of their recovered property.
The command added that investigations have commenced to ascertain the identity of the owner of the recovered suspected human hand, the circumstances surrounding its possession and its intended use.
Police also said efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend other criminal associates linked to the suspect.
“The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating violent crime and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with timely and credible information that would aid crime prevention and enhance public safety.
