The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 23 teenage miscreants for allegedly engaging in daylight assaults, harassment, and stealing from residents and traders in the Mushin area of Lagos.
According to the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects, aged between 14 and 16, were apprehended during coordinated raids carried out in known black spots and criminal hideouts around Ishaga, Awolowo, and Ojuwoye markets.
He said the arrests followed growing complaints from residents and business owners in Mushin who had reported an increase in attacks and theft by gangs of teenage hoodlums operating in the area.
Reacting to the situation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered the immediate deployment of additional police tactical squads, Police Mobile Force (PMF) units, and conventional police teams to Mushin and surrounding communities.
The objective, Hundeyin said, is to curb the activities of the miscreants and restore public confidence.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has promptly deployed more Police tactical squads, Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel and other Conventional Police Teams specifically to Mushin and the adjoining areas to checkmate the activities of these miscreants and arrest them to bring them to justice.
“Total normalcy has been completely restored to Mushin and all other parts of Lagos State. Lagosians are encouraged to go about their lawful businesses and other activities without fear or apprehension,” he said.
Hundeyin noted that investigations are currently ongoing, and the arrested suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of the process.
Meanwhile, the area commander covering Mushin has been directed to hold strategic meetings with the local government chairmen of the area to further strengthen collaborative security efforts.
Hundeyin urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station, with assurances that officers are under strict instructions to respond swiftly.
“The Commissioner of Police has equally assured the good people of Mushin and the entire Lagos State that their safety and security remain a top priority, and we are committed to restoring peace and confidence in this area.
“We urge the good people of Lagos State not to hesitate to reach out to the nearest police station if they see or hear anything suspicious around them, as officers and men of the Command have been charged to respond swiftly,” he added.
