The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old hospital cleaner for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla Sport valued at about ₦18m from a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) doctor.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the suspect, Mohammed Dan-Azumi, was apprehended in Kano State after an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), Yola.
According to the police, the vehicle owner reported that he had handed the 2016 Toyota Corolla Sport to the suspect for washing before the suspect allegedly drove off with the car.
“The breakthrough followed a report lodged by the owner of the vehicle, who stated that he had entrusted his vehicle to Mohammed Dan-Azumi, 26, of Girei Local Government Area, for washing. The suspect allegedly absconded with the vehicle to an unknown destination.
“Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), Yola, launched a coordinated, intelligence-led operation that led to the tracking and arrest of the suspect in Kano State. The stolen vehicle was successfully recovered,” the statement read.
Police said investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabiru Hassan, commended the investigating team for its professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime across the state. He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support police operations.
The suspect works as a cleaner at Girei Cottage Hospital, where the vehicle owner is serving as an NYSC medical doctor.
