Police Arrest Suspected MASSOB Member Over Sit-At-Home Plan In Anambra

Police operatives in Anambra have arrested a suspected member of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) over an alleged plan to enforce a sit-at-home on May 30.

The suspect, identified as Friday Obeta, was arrested by the Rapid Response Squad in Nnewi following credible intelligence.

During the arrest, police recovered a motorcycle, a MASSOB-branded T-shirt, and an operational ID card belonging to the group.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Ikenga, the suspect confessed to being a member of the group and admitted to working as an informant.

“He has made useful statements that are aiding the ongoing investigation for the possible arrest of other gang members,” the statement read.

In response, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, directed his officers to intensify surveillance and enforcement efforts.

“The operatives must step up surveillance operations to thwart any unlawful gathering in the state,” CP Orutugu said.

Police assured residents that efforts are ongoing to ensure peace and prevent any group from disrupting public order.
