Police Congratulate New Enugu Monarch, DIG Nwobodo (Rtd.)

The Nigeria Police Force, on Wednesday, congratulated Deputy Inspector-General of Police Godwin Nwobodo (retired) on his coronation as the traditional ruler of the Ihueze-Nnewe Autonomous Communities, Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.

NEWSNGR reports that DIG Nwobodo was coronated on Saturday, 27th December 2025.

A statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the coronation was “a well-deserved honour that reflects his lifetime of exemplary service, integrity, and commitment to leadership, both in public service and community development”.

According to the Force PRO, “His elevation to the revered traditional stool stands as an affirmation of the confidence reposed in his character, wisdom, and capacity to lead. His transition from national service to traditional leadership marks a continuation of his lifelong commitment to service, now directed towards fostering peace, unity, cultural preservation, and sustainable development within his community.”

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, in the release, expressed confidence that the monarch would bring his wealth of experience in leadership, conflict management, and governance to bear in the discharge of his royal responsibilities.

It was gathered that DIG Nwobodo joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1984 and served the force for over three decades across operational, administrative, and leadership units. He was once the Director of Courses at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano.

He rose to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police and headed the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Force Headquarters, Abuja. He retired on 12th August 2019.
