Police Detain Kaduna Couple Over Teenager’s Death

The Kaduna State Police Command has taken a man and his wife into custody following the death of a teenage boy in the Kurmin-Mashi area of Kaduna metropolis.

The incident occurred on Sunday along Dahiru Road and involved a teenager identified as Sadiq.

Police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the command had launched an investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the boy’s death.

According to him, preliminary findings indicate that the teenager was allegedly assaulted by his mother and stepfather during a disagreement over money he had been asked to withdraw from a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator.

“The suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine what transpired and the appropriate legal action to be taken,” Hassan said.

Residents of the neighbourhood described the incident as disturbing, saying it sparked outrage within the community.

Some witnesses claimed neighbours attempted to intervene and appealed to the couple to stop the alleged assault, while others said efforts were made to calm the situation before it escalated.

Community members have called for a comprehensive investigation and justice for the deceased.

The police appealed to residents to remain peaceful and allow investigators to conclude their work, assuring that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
