Police Foil Planned Cult War In Rivers University, Arrest 3 Suspects

The Rivers State Police Command has foiled a planned cult war between suspected Klu Klux Klans (KKK) and Vikings cult groups at a university in Port Harcourt.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening, July 17, 2025, along Azikiwe/Opobolane Street, Mile 2 Diobu, when members of the two cult groups engaged in a shootout.

According to eyewitnesses, business owners and passersby scurried for safety as the clash ensued, with some shops closing early for the day. The police intervened promptly, arresting three suspected student cultists involved in the clash.

One of the arrested suspects is reportedly a final-year student of one of the universities in Rivers State.

The Azikiwe Police Division and Octopus Strike Force Police unit responded quickly to the situation, bringing it under control.

The police recovered a gun from the suspects and are currently investigating the matter. This recent incident follows a string of cult-related violence in the state, with the police command cracking down on cultism and violent crimes.

Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident.

 SP Koko said:  “yes I can confirm the incident.Three suspects  were  arrested.One English made revolver pistol,one live ammunition and three expanded ammnunition were recovered in the bag of the suspects.

“Investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting fleeing members of the cult groups”.
