Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have made a significant breakthrough in combating human trafficking, arresting two notorious suspects and rescuing a pregnant woman from their clutches.
The suspects, identified as Sunshine Hart, 28, and Kingsley Ekocha, 38, were apprehended on June 24, 2025, in Aba, Abia State, following diligent investigation and intelligence gathering.
The rescued woman, Regina Sunday, 24, was found to be pregnant and was promptly taken into protective custody.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a remarkable turn of events, she went into labour on June 30, 2025, and was safely delivered of a baby boy at the Police Clinic in Port Harcourt.
She said that both mother and child are receiving medical attention and are in stable condition.
She said: “The police command is committed to dismantling the human trafficking network and ensuring that those responsible face the full weight of the law.
“The investigation is ongoing, with a focus on tracking down other members of the syndicate.”
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting the public and upholding the rule of law.
He urged members of the public to report all suspicious human trafficking activities and provide intelligence to aid investigations.
