PSC Promotes 12 CPs To AIG, Elevates 255 Others

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted 267 officers to various higher ranks, including Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs), commissioners, and deputy commissioners following performance evaluations and examinations.

The Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd.), disclosed through the Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, that the promotions followed comprehensive examinations and interviews overseen by the commission.

A breakdown of the promotions showed that 12 commissioners of police moved to the rank of assistant inspectors general, while 16 deputy commissioners advanced to commissioner of police.

The Commission also elevated 27 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners.

Argungu explained that one Assistant Commissioner, who failed to appear for the promotion exercise, was not considered.

Additionally, 145 Chief Superintendents earned promotions to Assistant Commissioners. These included General Duty Officers and specialists from various disciplines such as Airwing, medical practitioners, dental surgeons, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, and nurses.

The PSC also elevated 29 Police Superintendents, all specialists in areas like Information Technology, Works, and Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), to Chief Superintendents.

Furthermore, 38 Deputy Superintendents in specialist roles were promoted to the rank of Superintendent.

Others promoted included Airwing engineers, chaplains, and aviation-related police personnel.

DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), who chairs the Commission’s Standing Committee on Police Matters, coordinated the promotion process and submitted the final report to the Commission during its plenary session.

Reflecting on the exercise, DIG Argungu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to upholding promotion examinations as a standard practice aligned with global policing benchmarks.

He emphasised the need for officers to meet professional expectations, stating: “The promotion exams have come to stay in line with global best practices and advised the Officers to sit up or be shown the way out.

“The Police Force of the 21st Century must be good enough to hold their own anywhere and ensure that Nigeria is freed from criminals and criminality.”

He congratulated the successful officers and urged them to commit more fervently to national service.

The 12 officers promoted from Commissioner of Police to AIG are: Johnson Oluwole Adenola (CP, Oyo State), Ako Benedict Gabriel (Former PSO to IGP, ex-DCP Ops Delta), Ahmadu Tijani Abdullahi (CP, Jigawa State), Emmanuel Adegbola Aina (Acting AIG, Intelligence), Omolara Ibidun Oloruntola (CP, Police College Jos), and Hassan Abdu Yabanet (CP, Taraba State).

Others are Bretet Emmanuel Simon (CP, FCID Gombe Zonal Command), Enyinnaya Inonachi Adiogu (CP, Special Unit, FCID Alagbon), Aminu Baba Raji (CP, Eastern Ports, Port Harcourt), Mohammed Mu’azu Usman (Acting AIG, DLS Dept., Force HQ), Festus Chinedu Oko (Acting AIG DLS Department, Force Headquarters), and Ronke Nurat Okunade (Special Fraud Unit, FCID Annexe, Lagos)

The 16 deputy commissioners promoted to commissioners are: Uduak Otu Ita, Sheikh Mohammed Danko, Charles Ezekwesiri Dike, Nnana Oji Ama (DC, Intelligence, FCID), Gabriel Onyilo Eliagwu, Abiola Reuben Olutunde, Yakubu Useni Dankaro, Michael Adegoroye Falade, Aina Adesola, and Umar Ahmed Chuso.

Others are Emefile Tony Osifo, Innocent Ilogbunam Anagbado, Musa Mohammed Sani, Victor Avwerosuo Erivwode (DC, SEB, FCID), Omoikhudu Philip, and Sylvester Edogbanya.

The 27 officers promoted to deputy commissioners Shehu Idris (Acting DCP Admin, Enugu Command), David Adio Alalada, Dalhatu Basher, Hamzat Tambai (Area Commander, Port Harcourt), Abdulkarim Nuhu, Olufemi Akinwale Akinola, Sani Fudaiku Kura, Yakubu Isah, and Isa Abubukar Adamu

Others are Sunday Omonijo, Sunday Akinlolu Okunola, Abimbola Shafkat Abdulraheem, Adekunle Murisiku Tokosi, Ibrahim Sumaila Musa, Mohammed Jega Musa, Musa Jibril, Ali Isa Gumel, Dankal Umar Bello, Suleiman Ladi Abdullahi, Suleiman Sade, Ahmed Ataka Tanko, Shehu Aliyu, and Ndidiamaka Alifi Oguamalam (Police College, Ikeja), Magawata Mode

Others are Adedeji Adeniyi, Bello Zaurah Tukur, Mohammed Muntari Mati, Mohammed Ajose, Chief Superintendents Promoted to Assistant Commissioners

Also, chief Superintendents now promoted to ACP are: Zubairu Maina, Olufikayo Abimbola Fawole, Stephen Olusola Olatise, Buhari Abdullahi, Akaniyere Etuk

Others are Lateef Jaiyeola (CSP Admin, Force Education), Agbemoroti Clement Oloruntoba (Former DPO Bode Osi, Osun State), Magaji Kabomo Mohammed (IGP Monitoring Unit), Chinedum Aniagbaso (ICT, Force HQ), Abdullahi Mohammed Deba (Gender Unit, Force Intelligence), Mohammed Sani Idris (Commander, SPU Base 7, Abuja), Barau Dalhatu Bafarawa (FCID), and Ugwuodo Chika (Homicide Section, FCID Abuja).

Also promoted were Adeoye Benjamin Oyekunle (Acting ACP X Squad, Akure), Sani El-Mustapha (CRU, Force HQ), Sani Mohammed Babainna, and Olabode Olawole (Airwing Unit).

This list came at a time when some retired officers protested pension issues, although the PSC insisted it was already addressing those concerns.

The PSC reiterated that these promotions reflected a merit-based, globally aligned structure aimed at enhancing professionalism in the Nigeria Police Force.
