“Rangers Crowned NPFL Champions” — Beat Ikorodu City 2-1 To Win Ninth League Title, Equal Enyimba’s Record

Rangers International F.C. have won the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League title after defeating Ikorodu City F.C. 2-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday.

The victory secured the Flying Antelopes’ ninth league crown, drawing them level with Enyimba F.C. as the most successful clubs in NPFL history.

Heading into the final day of the season, Rangers knew only a win would guarantee the title, regardless of results elsewhere. Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side delivered when it mattered most, finishing the campaign with 68 points from 38 matches, one point ahead of Rivers United.

Rangers started strongly and took the lead in the 30th minute through captain Chidiebere Nwobodo, who finished off a fine team move to put the visitors ahead.

Nwobodo doubled the lead 10 minutes into the second half, giving the Enugu club firm control of the title-deciding encounter.

Ikorodu City, who were also fighting for a continental ticket, responded in the 58th minute through substitute Moses Ali after Rangers goalkeeper Lucky Jimoh failed to properly deal with a long-range effort.

The hosts pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Rangers held firm to secure the victory and confirm their status as league champions.

Rivers United finished second despite recording a 3-0 win over Katsina United, as the result was not enough to overtake Rangers at the top of the table.

With the title triumph, Rangers and Rivers United will represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
