The Rivers State Executive Council has cancelled the ₦134bn contract for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat, earlier awarded to CCECC during the period of emergency rule.
The Council also directed the company to refund the ₦20bn mobilisation fee it received.
The decisions were made at a recent meeting of the Rivers State Executive Council held at Government House on Thursday.
The Council approved a 6-man committee headed by the Deputy Governor of the State, Prof. Ngozi Odu, to evaluate and make recommendations for the construction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state. The committee’s mandate is to facilitate the conduct of external examinations in the state.
The Council also directed the flood committee, headed by the Deputy Governor, to take immediate action to address flooding in the state. The committee has been tasked with finding solutions to the perennial flooding problem that has been affecting residents in various parts of the state.
The Council cautioned residents against blocking drainage channels, which exacerbates the flooding problem. The government has urged residents to cooperate with the authorities to ensure that drainage channels are cleared and maintained to prevent flooding.
