Senate Passes NIMC Repeal And Enactment Bill 2025 After Rescission And Re-Commitment

The Senate on Wednesday passed the National Identity Management Commission Repeal and Enactment Bill 2025.

Senate Majority Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti), presented the motion for rescission, re-commitment, and passage of the bill at plenary.

He stated that the National Assembly observed some fundamental issues requiring fresh legislative action on the bill after its initial passage.

He added that the technical committee of the Senate, House of Representatives, and the Directorate of Legal Services met and worked on the bill.

According to him, the Senate, relying on Orders 1b and 52b of its Standing Orders, resolved to rescind its earlier decision on the bill and re-commit it to the Senate for consideration. After a clause-by-clause review of the bill in the Committee of the Whole, it was passed.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, in his remarks, thanked lawmakers and other critical stakeholders for their contributions to the bill.

He expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would sign the bill into law once it is transmitted.
