‘Stop Distracting Tinubu’ – APC Warns Opposition

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned opposition parties against what it described as persistent politically motivated distractions targeted at President Bola Tinubu, urging them to focus on internal coherence rather than creating “manufactured drama.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, criticised the ongoing friction between the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, calling it yet another sign of opposition instability.

In a recent interview on YouTube by ‘Advocacy for Good Governance’, Obi said the ADC coalition is faltering because it has yet to settle questions on zoning and the rotation of key offices.

He added that the coalition must consolidate its structure and agree on a shared direction for the country.

Following Obi’s comments, the ADC asked him to make up his mind about joining the party.

Oladejo said the ADC’s call for Obi to clarify his 2027 ambition, alongside its dismissal of zoning considerations, exposed a deeper crisis of direction and purpose within the opposition coalition.

He alleged that the ADC had been packaged as a vehicle for one man’s long-standing presidential ambition, insisting that the disagreement was further evidence of a coalition without democracy.

According to him, Obi’s political approach resembles waiting on distressed political parties for a free presidential ticket, rather than building a structured national platform.

The APC spokesman stressed that Tinubu is focused on addressing national challenges affecting the economy, security, infrastructure and social development, and should not be subjected to needless distractions from political opponents.

He maintained that while opposition parties fight themselves, the ruling party is committed to steady governance and national renewal under President Tinubu’s leadership.

“At this critical juncture, it has become expedient to warn the opposition to stop distracting Bola Ahmed Tinubu with needless politicking and manufactured drama. There is no dispute about the enormous national challenges before the nation, and President Tinubu remains steadily, courageously and competently poised to overcome them for the collective betterment of Nigerians.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC), as the ruling party, has no reason to jump the gun on electioneering. Our numerous achievements across infrastructure, economy, security, social investment, education, health, transportation and national reforms will speak loudly for us at the appropriate time.

“The opposition, on the other hand, has nothing to offer but recycled slogans and empty promises – deceptions that Nigerians can now see through with clarity and experience,” Oladejo said.

He described the ADC–Obi seemingly disagreement as a public confession of collapse, insisting that Nigerians can now clearly distinguish between what he called the ruling party’s preparedness and the opposition’s disarray.

“The ADC-Obi face-off is no longer an internal disagreement. It is now a public confession of collapse. Opposition in full-blown confusion, indeed,” Oladejo added.
