Terrorists ambush military base in Sokoto, kill two soldiers, injure three

Two soldiers were reportedly killed and three others injured after troops came under a terrorist ambush while responding to a security threat in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, when troops of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division, stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Tidibale, responded to reports of an attack in Tagirke village.

Citing security sources, the publication said the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat from the village.

However, while withdrawing from the area, the soldiers reportedly ran into a well-coordinated ambush set by the fleeing attackers.

Makama reported that one of the military gun trucks struck an improvised explosive device (IED), leading to casualties among the troops.

Two soldiers were confirmed killed in action, while three others sustained injuries.

The bodies of the deceased soldiers were evacuated to the mortuary of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) in Sokoto, while the injured personnel were taken to the 8 Division Medical Services and Hospital for treatment.

The publication added that the damaged gun truck was later recovered and towed back to the Forward Operating Base in Tidibale, as troops intensified efforts to track down the attackers, recover missing weapons, and sustain offensive operations in the area.
