The Democrats Commend ADC, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Over Transparent Osun Governorship Primary

The Democrats, a think tank composed of young professionals in politics committed to the promotion and deepening of democratic ideals across Nigeria, warmly commend the national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the transparent, credible, and highly democratic conduct of its Osun State governorship primary held today in Oshogbo, Osun State.

In a statement signed by Mr Thompson O. Samuel, Acting National Coordinator, the group
applauded Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the leader of the ADC in Osun State, for providing purposeful leadership and moral guidance that ensured a level playing field for all aspirants. The peaceful atmosphere, openness of the process, and strict adherence to democratic principles demonstrated during the primary are clear reflections of his commitment to internal party democracy and good political culture.

The emergence of the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Najeem Sallam, as the winner of the primary is seen as a testament to the confidence of party delegates in a transparent process where votes truly counted.

The group said, “This outcome further reinforces the belief that democracy can thrive within political parties when fairness, inclusiveness, and respect for due process are upheld.

“The Democrats view this primary as a model worthy of emulation by other political parties across Nigeria. At a time when public trust in democratic institutions is being tested, the ADC has demonstrated that credible internal democracy is achievable and can strengthen the nation’s overall democratic development.

“We congratulate Rt Hon. Najeem Sallam on his emergence and urge all party stakeholders to rally behind him in the spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and collective responsibility. We also encourage the ADC leadership to sustain this commendable standard as preparations continue towards the forthcoming governorship election in Osun, the presidential and other national elections.”
