President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Aina, who turns 40 in July, will take over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede when the latter’s two-term tenure ends on July 31, 2026, Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, said.
Onanuga, in a statement issued on Thursday, May 21, 2026, described Professor Aina as a distinguished academic and systems expert with deep experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform.
Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom.
He also earned an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, UK.
He is an alumnus of the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina’s connection with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year.
During this period, he gained early exposure to national admissions processes and data-driven operations — experience that has continued to inform his work in examination reform and systems optimisation.
Professor Aina is a registered member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Onanuga also stated that President Tinubu expects the new Registrar to leverage his extensive expertise to consolidate JAMB’s achievements under Professor Oloyede and boost the board to greater heights.
