The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, said critics of President Bola Tinubu have been silenced by the visible results of the ongoing development drive across the nation’s capital.
Wike spoke on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Daki Biyu District access road in Abuja.
Wike said the district, which hosts major federal institutions such as the Police Service Commission and the Code of Conduct Tribunal, was once impassable.
“I remember the day we came here to identify where to build the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal. The roads were completely unpassable, and I wondered how such a major judicial institution could be sited here. But today, with the support and leadership of Mr. President, that is now history. All the roads have been completed,” he said.
The Minister announced that the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal will soon be inaugurated.
“In the next few months, Mr. President will be here again to inaugurate the Court of Appeal Division. When you have the right leadership, you achieve the right results. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown that leadership, and that’s why we are making progress,” he said.
Wike also used the occasion to address political critics and what he described as “unnecessary propaganda and blackmail.”
He said, “People said I didn’t attend the Council of State meeting because I was unhappy my nominee wasn’t there. That is false. I had already informed Mr. President that I had other engagements. I work for Mr. President, and I know his focus is on putting this country in the right perspective.”
The Minister emphasised that the ongoing wave of road commissioning and project inaugurations across Abuja demonstrates a clear focus on delivery, not distraction.
“They say we are concentrating only on roads. I say, ‘Melembe! Melembe! Take it easy.’ Very soon, they will see us focusing on schools. We’ve kept them busy, and we’ll continue to do so with more projects in the coming days,” Wike said.
He thanked the local contractors handling the project for their performance, noting that the administration’s reliance on indigenous firms is yielding positive results.
“Let me thank the contractor for not disappointing us. They have done well, and we will continue to partner with them to bring more development to the FCT,” Wike said.
The Minister also commended the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, for her unwavering cooperation, and described her as a dependable partner in governance.
He said, “It’s not easy to have two ministers working this closely and cooperatively. I’ve been a Minister of State before, so I know what happens in other ministries. Without teamwork, you can’t achieve much. I commend the Honourable Minister of State for her support.”
Wike further appreciated the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), the acting Executive Secretary, and the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) for their roles in executing the projects being commissioned across the territory.
The Minister promised even more ambitious developments as the Tinubu administration marks its third year in office in 2026, saying, “By Mr. President’s third anniversary, Nigerians will see what they have never seen before. All I ask is for patience. Through Mr. President, a new narrative is emerging. The change is visible for all to see.”
Wike urged Nigerians to rise above political divisions and acknowledge the visible progress being recorded under President Tinubu’s leadership.
He added, “No matter how you feel about politics, can you honestly say nothing is happening in the FCT? Certainly not. This is what the dividends of democracy look like, real projects that improve the lives of our people.”
