Tiwa Savage Music Foundation’s “Berklee in Nigeria

The maiden edition of the “Berklee in Nigeria” programme, spearheaded by Tiwa Savage through the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, ended on a high note with a vibrant grand finale that celebrated talent, learning, and global opportunity.

Held in Lagos, the week-long initiative brought together over 100 emerging Nigerian artists for an intensive music bootcamp delivered in partnership with Berklee College of Music—one of the world’s leading music institutions.

The grand finale, which doubled as a concert and award ceremony, drew an impressive lineup of celebrities and industry figures, including Dr. Foluso Philips of Philips Consult, Rita Dominic, Nancy Isime, Yeni Kuti, Tobi Bakre, and Waje, all of whom showed strong support for the initiative’s vision of empowering young creatives.

The event was hosted by the dynamic duo of Darey Art Alade and Kiekie, whose energy and stage presence added flair to the evening.

Participants showcased original compositions developed during the programme, delivering electrifying performances backed by live instrumentation an approach that reflects Berklee’s globally acclaimed training style. The audience was treated to a fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, soul, jazz, and contemporary Nigerian sounds, highlighting the depth and diversity of talent nurtured during the programme.

Beyond the performances, the initiative offered intensive training sessions, mentorship, and professional development opportunities aimed at bridging the gap between raw talent and industry readiness. For many participants, the programme marked their first exposure to structured, world-class music education.

A major highlight of the night was the awarding of 18 prestigious scholarships worth a total of $2.3 million to outstanding participants, granting them the opportunity to study at Berklee College of Music in the United States. The emotional moment underscored the life-changing impact of the initiative, as beneficiaries took a significant step toward global careers in music.

The “Berklee in Nigeria” programme stands out as a groundbreaking effort to invest in Nigeria’s creative future. By combining local talent with international expertise, the initiative not only elevates artistic standards but also creates a clear pathway for young musicians to access global platforms.

With its successful debut, the programme has set a strong foundation for future editions, positioning Nigeria as a hub for world-class music education and reinforcing the country’s influence on the global soundscape.
