Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested six suspected terrorist logistics suppliers and recovered a large cache of materials believed to have been destined for insurgents in Borno State.
The suspects were intercepted around 4 p.m. on Saturday during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along a route allegedly used to move supplies to terrorist groups.
Military authorities said the suspects were travelling in five vehicles when they were arrested. Recovered items included 202 cartons of herbicides, a Starlink internet communication device, six bags of NPK fertilizer, a jerrycan containing suspected acid, 10 bags of rice, 50 hoes and 20 packs of knapsack sprayers.
According to the military, investigators are examining whether some of the recovered materials, particularly the fertilizer and suspected acid, were meant for the production of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The suspects and the recovered items have been handed over to military intelligence for further investigation to identify the intended recipients and uncover other members of the suspected logistics network.
Operation HADIN KAI said targeting terrorist supply chains has weakened insurgent groups operating in the North East.
It said intelligence gathered from rescued hostages and surrendered insurgents indicates that shortages of food, medical supplies and communication equipment have forced many fighters to abandon their camps and flee advancing troops.
