Two In Court For Refrigerator Compressor Theft

Two men, Yusuf Bakare, 23 and Muhammed Ali, 26, on Thursday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun over the alleged theft of 17 refrigerator compressors valued at N2.2m.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

The Prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 20 at Segosh Hotel and Suites, Dalemo, Ota.

Adaraloye said that they conspired between themselves and stole the 17 refrigerator compressors belonging to Segosh Hotel and Suites.

He stated that Aliu received the stolen goods from Bakare, knowing full well that they were stolen items.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.

Fadairo said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case till Nov. 14 for further hearing.
