Wike Kicks Off Road Linking Wuse With Central Area

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday, commenced the construction of the Transit Way (N2), designed to link the Wuse District with the Central Area through two bridges.

Speaking at the event in Abuja, Wike said the project reflects the administration’s determination to strengthen Abuja’s road network and improve connectivity across districts, stressing that no modern city can thrive without world-class infrastructure.

“There’s no development in any city without a good network of roads. When all the cities are linked, you can then talk about modernization and investment,” the minister declared.

Wike revealed that his attention was first drawn to the project site during an inspection around the T. Y. Danjuma Foundation axis, while commending the private effort that kick-started construction on one end of the route.

According to him, the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) subsequently took over the project to extend it fully to Wuse.

The minister assured that he would personally monitor the contractors to ensure timely delivery. He noted that several key projects must be completed ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.

He further disclosed that beyond roads, the FCT Administration would intensify work in education and healthcare.

He said, at least 40 schools are slated for total rehabilitation following the commencement of the N2 road project, adding to the 70 already under rehabilitation, out of which 45 have been completed.

“No sector will be left untouched by the directive of Mr. President. If you are in charge of a sector, you must sit up. This is about speed and commitment. My team knows that I call at any hour, and phones must be on 24 hours. That is the level of seriousness we require,” Wike said.

The minister also dismissed criticisms and allegations against his style of administration, and insisted that only results matter.

“All those who hate us are still using the roads, the water, and the street lights we provide. The only thing in our dictionary is work, work, and more work for our people,” he added.

In her remarks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the commencement of the construction of the Transit Way (N2) to connect the Central Area with Wuse District, alongside two strategic bridges, as a milestone in easing traffic congestion and promoting seamless movement within the capital city.

She emphasised that the project was another clear testimony of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda translating into tangible dividends for residents.

“Your role in ensuring that the FCT receives the needed budgetary attention and oversight is highly commendable. Today, we are witnessing the fruits of such partnership,” she told National Assembly members who supported the project.

The minister noted that the N2 Transit Way project, with its two bridges, is expected to reduce travel time between Wuse and the Central Area and also boost economic activity and investment confidence in the Federal Capital Territory.
