A 32-year-old woman was rescued alive on Wednesday after falling into an uncovered well in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the incident occurred at about 1:21 a.m. at 1A Mustapha Bolatiwa Street, off Agric Road, in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
In a statement issued by the Controller General of the agency, Margaret Adeseye, the woman, who was reportedly depressed, accidentally fell into the 60-foot-deep well while sitting on its edge.
“A distress call was received regarding a reportedly depressed female adult, approximately 32 years old, who accidentally fell into an uncovered well about 60 feet deep. The victim was said to have wandered from a nearby building before the incident occurred while she was sitting on the edge of the well,” the statement read.
“Upon arrival, the rescue crew immediately commenced operations and successfully rescued the victim alive. She was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.”
Adeseye noted that preliminary investigations indicated the fall was accidental and linked to the woman’s depressed state.
THE WHISTLER reports that in July, a woman lost her life after falling into a 170-foot-deep well at a construction site in the Ijegun area of Lagos.
Her body was recovered days later following a prolonged, multi-agency recovery operation.
The tragic incident happened seven months after a plumber fell into a well while working in the Igando area in December 2024.
However, the swift intervention of emergency responders at the incident scene, resulted in the safe rescue of the man alive.
