FAAN reopens Lagos airport runway post-Dana Air incident
After a temporary closure due to a Dana Air aircraft mishap, the Runway 18L/36R at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport has been reopened by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, confirmed the reopening in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The statement indicated, “FAAN is pleased to inform all stakeholders and the public that flight operations have resumed on Runway 18L/36R at 19:58hrs.
“Earlier in the day, the runway had to be closed following an incident involving a Dana Air plane, registration number 5N-BKI, which skidded off the runway during landing.
“Our emergency response team acted swiftly to clear and remove the aircraft from the location. Subsequent comprehensive clearing operations were carried out to ensure the runway was free of any Foreign Object Debris that could jeopardize flight safety,” Orah stated.
The runway’s safety for flights was confirmed after joint inspections by FAAN’s Operations Division and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.
