Yahaya Bello Denies Paying $720,000 for Children’s School Fees in Kogi

Former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, refutes the allegation of using state funds to pay $720,000 for his children’s school fees.

Responding to claims by EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, Bello clarified that receipts circulating were provided by his legal team and not state funds.

In a statement attributed to his Media Officer, Ohiare Michael, Bello asserted that his children were enrolled in the American International School, Abuja, before his tenure and fees were regularly paid.

The statement, titled “Clarification on School Fees Payment”, stated, “Contrary to misleading statements, Governor Yahaya Bello did not pay $720,000 or $840,000 as rumored. The fee payments began in 2021, not towards the end of his term as claimed.”

It continued, “Yahaya Bello’s children’s fees were not covered by Kogi State funds.”

Bello’s statement also denied any recovery by the EFCC related to the former governor or his family.
