371 bag first class honours at Covenant university

A total of 371 students of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, on Friday graduated with First-Class honours degrees at the institution’s 2026 convocation.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Anake, disclosed this during the university’s 21st convocation ceremony for the award of first and higher degrees and presentation of prizes to deserving graduates in Ota.
The News of Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the university graduated 1,843 students comprising 1,655 undergraduates and 188 postgraduates for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The breakdown showed that 371 students earned First Class honours, 926 bagged Second Class Upper, 345 finished with Second Class Lower, while 13 graduated with Third Class.
Miss Etta Queendolin from the Department of Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering emerged the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.99.
“This accomplishment reflects the determination of our students, the dedication of the faculty and the university’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence,” he said.
Anake reiterated the university’s commitment to producing graduates who can compete effectively in the labour market, create employment opportunities, build enterprise, advance research, and contribute meaningfully to society.
The Chancellor of the institution, Dr David Oyedepo, said that the world was not looking for storytellers or entertainers, but problem solvers.
Oyedepo noted that life remains meaningless without a discovered purpose, urging the graduating students to avoid becoming wandering stars and to excel in their chosen fields.
“Refuse to wander away from God-ordained place because displacement can be pitiable.
“Don’t wait to see problems solved; but take steps to solve problems,” he said.
According to the chancellor, widespread problems imply opportunities everywhere that graduands can leverage.
Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor, Mrs Faith Oyedepo, congratulated the graduating students and urged them to invest in learning, development of their skills, and prepare for future opportunities.
Mrs Oyedepo encouraged them to create solutions that address the problems of humanity and transform territories, moving from personal success to societal impact.
“Do not waste your waiting season but make global impact and begin locally,” the pro-chancellor said.
She advised the students to stand for the truth in a generation of compromise.
