Chidi Chidebe announced his resignation in a letter dated 27 August and addressed to the chairman of the PDP’s Interim National Working Committee on Thursday.
Chidi Chidebe, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, has resigned his position with effect from 27 August.
Mr Chidebe was elected chairman in Anambra in a Congress held on 24 October 2024.
He said he decided to relinquish his position following extensive and careful consultations with his family, close associates and trusted stakeholders.
He said the continued disagreements and legal disputes surrounding the party’s national leadership created an “increasingly” difficult environment in which to discharge his responsibilities as a state chairman effectively.
Mr Chidebe appreciated God for granting him the opportunity to serve, as well as the PDP state executive committee, local government chairpersons, ward executives, and party faithful, for their support throughout his tenure.
“Having given the matter considerable thought and having served to the best of my ability, I believe that stepping aside at this point is in the best interest of my personal peace, and the party at large,” he said.
Mr Chidebe said serving as the chairman of the PDP was a privilege, as the experiences, relationships, and friendships gained during his time in office were immense.
