Anambra Vows Justice For Teenager Raped By Guardian, Seven Others

A 16-year-old female in Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra has been reportedly gang raped by eight men including her guardian.

The teenager was rescued from the abusive situation by a Good Samaritan who informed a Catholic priest in Nawfia, whereupon the case was handed to the State’s Ministry of Women Affairs.

The victim, whose name was withheld confirmed that before the rape incident last week, her guardian had forcefully had canal knowledge of her, repeatedly.

Recounting her ordeal at the office of the State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, the victim said, the guardian’s spouse is down with a stroke and was unable to rescue her from the recurring abuse.

The Commissioner, Esther Onyekesi, displeased by the incident, revealed the result of a medical investigation, indicating that the victim is now two months pregnant.

She said, “The state government condemned this act in strong terms and the ministry will ensure that all perpetrators in the dastardly act are brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others.

“We express deep outrage over the level of trauma the young girl had endured at the hands of adults who were entrusted with her protection. This is unacceptable.

“We urge men to protect women and young girls, rather than take advantage of their vulnerability. The ministry assured the victim of her safety and pledged to follow the case diligently to ensure justice is served.”

The ministry revealed that the police in Nawfia had arrested two of the eight suspects, while the remaining six were on the run.
