Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has announced plans for a prayer and remembrance gathering to mark the first anniversary of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.In a statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday, Ahmad said the event would hold on Monday, July 13, to honour Buhari’s life and years of service to Nigeria.
“On Monday, July 13th, we will gather in solemn remembrance to honour the life, legacy and enduring service of our late boss, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, one year after his passing,” he wrote.Ahmad described the late former president as a leader who served Nigeria with commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism, noting that his contributions to national development would remain part of the country’s history.
He added that family members, friends, associates and other Nigerians would come together for prayers and reflection, asking Allah to forgive Buhari’s shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and continue to comfort his loved ones and the nation.“May Allah grant him eternal rest. Ameen,” the statement concluded.
Buhari died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 in a London clinic after a prolonged illness. His remains were later flown back to Nigeria and buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.The late president served as Nigeria’s democratically elected leader from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, becoming the first opposition candidate in the country’s history to defeat an incumbent president after winning the 2015 presidential election. He was re-elected in 2019 and completed his second term in 2023.
The planned remembrance is expected to bring together family members, former aides, political associates and supporters to reflect on Buhari’s leadership, legacy and contributions to Nigeria’s political history.
