A late-night fire outbreak has destroyed property worth millions of naira along Murtala Mohammed Way in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred on Thursday night near the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) area, prompting an emergency response from the Kano State Fire Service.
According to the service, a distress call was received at about 10:54 p.m. on Thursday from one of its personnel, HFS Ibrahim Sabo, after which firefighters from the headquarters and other metropolitan stations were mobilised to the scene.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found a one-storey building and a large adjoining commercial space measuring approximately 300 by 200 feet engulfed in flames.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire originated from the salvage yard, popularly known as the Takumbo Market, before spreading to nearby structures.
The blaze destroyed a substantial quantity of goods within the market and extended to the Kanawa Building, where two offices, two parlours, two toilets and a kitchen were burnt.
Two stores located on the ground floor of TUSRAYS Nigeria Limited were also affected by the inferno.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, confirmed that investigations traced the cause of the fire to an electrical spark.
Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to observe safety measures to prevent future fire outbreaks.
He also advised members of the public to promptly alert the nearest fire station whenever a fire emergency occurs.
The service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state through rapid response and public safety awareness initiatives.
