Ibom Air begins domestic operations at new Uyo international terminal

The operational shift means passengers travelling on Ibom Air’s domestic routes will now depart from and arrive at the international terminal rather than from the airport’s previous domestic facility.

Ibom Air has kicked off domestic flight operations at the newly inaugurated international terminal at Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

“Today marks another defining moment in the evolution of Ibom Air and the aviation sector in Akwa Ibom State,” said CEO George Uriesi.

“The commencement of our domestic operations from the new International Terminal reflects our unwavering commitment to providing our passengers with a seamless, safe and world-class travel experience,” he added.

The operational shift means passengers travelling on Ibom Air’s domestic routes will now depart from and arrive at the international terminal rather than from the airport’s previous domestic facility.

The move comes as airports across the country continue to grapple with increasing passenger traffic and growing demand for improved infrastructure and service delivery.

According to the airline, the new terminal offers expanded passenger handling capacity and upgraded facilities aimed at improving the travel experience.

The terminal is equipped with modern check-in areas, boarding facilities and enhanced security infrastructure designed to accommodate expanding passenger volumes.

Mr Uriesi said the facility is expected to improve operational efficiency while supporting the state’s aviation ambitions.

The push also reflects efforts by Akwa Ibom State to strengthen the position of Victor Attah International Airport within Nigeria’s aviation network.

In recent years, the state government has committed huge investments to aviation infrastructure, including airport expansion projects and support for state-owned Ibom Air.

The airline, which began operations in 2019, has grown its domestic route network and emerged as one of Nigeria’s leading carriers by passenger traffic and on-time performance.

Passengers travelling through Uyo have been advised to arrive early for their flights and familiarise themselves with the new terminal layout.

The airline said arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruption to scheduled flights.

The commencement of domestic operations at the terminal is expected to further increase activity at the airport and support broader efforts to improve air transport connectivity in the South-South region.
