Former President Goodluck Jonathan has paid glowing tribute to his late predecessor, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, describing him as a symbol of integrity, humility and selfless service, 16 years after his demise.

In a statement marking the anniversary, Jonathan recalled his close working relationship with the late president, whom he described not only as a leader but also as a brother and partner in national service.

He said Mr Yar’Adua was deeply committed to building a Nigeria anchored on justice, fairness and inclusiveness, noting that their administration was guided by a shared vision of a more united and equitable country.

Mr Jonathan highlighted the late president’s strong belief in the rule of law and credible elections, adding that Yar’Adua’s time in office was marked by uncommon humility and a willingness to place national interest above personal or political considerations.

He also praised Yar’Adua’s efforts in peace-building and governance reforms, describing his leadership style as one rooted in honesty, accountability and courage in addressing national challenges.

According to him, the late president’s life continues to serve as a lesson for current and future leaders on the importance of transparency, responsibility and genuine service to the people.

He also prayed for the repose of Yar’Adua’s soul, asking Allah to grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus.
