“Mama APC Dumps Ruling Party” — Nkechi Nwaogu Joins NDC, Blames Abia APC Primary “Shenanigans” As She Enters Senate Race

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, popularly known as “Mama APC,” has dumped the party and joined the National Democratic Congress.

Nwaogu, who was an aspirant for the Abia Central Senatorial District ticket in the recently concluded APC primaries, said her decision to leave the ruling party followed what she described as the “shenanigans” witnessed during the exercise in the state.

The former Pro-Chancellor of the University of Calabar has now joined the NDC and participated in the party’s primaries for the Abia Central Senatorial District held on Thursday.

Nwaogu is contesting for the NDC ticket alongside Emeka Nwankpa and three other aspirants.

Speaking in a telephone interview, the former House of Representatives member confirmed that she had resigned from the APC and had formally joined the NDC.

She also confirmed that she participated in the NDC primaries as an aspirant for the Abia Central Senatorial District seat.

Nwaogu expressed optimism that she would secure the party’s ticket after the exercise.

Her defection adds to the growing political realignments in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially following disputes and dissatisfaction arising from party primaries across major political platforms.
