The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects over separate cases of alleged culpable homicide and attempted culpable homicide in the state.
The command said three suspects were arrested over the alleged killing of a 30-year-old man, Abubakar Auwal, while another suspect was detained for allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a knife.
According to the police, the first incident occurred on July 24, 2026, after a report was received at the Sheka Police Division that Auwal had been lured and allegedly assaulted over accusations that he was having an affair with a married woman.
Police said the victim was allegedly attacked by Abubakar Ali, 40, Sulaiman Lawan, 27, and Hafsat Umar, 22, who were arrested at the scene.
The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment but was confirmed dead by a doctor. His remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while investigations continue.
In a separate incident on July 27, 2026, police arrested Maimunatu Idris, 25, over the alleged attempted murder of her boyfriend at Durbar Hotel, Badawa.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a knife after discovering he intended to marry another woman. The attack reportedly left the victim with serious injuries.
The Divisional Police Officer in Badawa led detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and the knife was recovered as evidence.
The victim was taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, condemned both incidents, warning residents against taking the law into their own hands or resorting to violence.
He assured the public that the Command would carry out thorough investigations and prosecute all suspects in accordance with the law, while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention.
