“No Option Of Fine” — Court Sentences Kano Football Coach To Eight Years For Sodomy Of Player

A Kano State High Court on Tuesday sentenced Hayatu Mohammed, a football team coach, to eight years’ imprisonment without an option of fine after finding him guilty of sodomy against one of his players.

The convict, a resident of Sanka Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, was found to have committed the offence on two separate occasions at different locations.

During the trial, prosecuting counsel Barrister Ibrahim Arif Garba presented five witnesses who testified against the defendant.

The presiding judge held that the evidence proved Mohammed’s guilt, sentencing him to four years for each count.

The judge further ordered that the sentences run concurrently, effective from the date of judgment, noting that the offence contravened Section 284 of the Penal Code Law.
